Kim Sung-ryung matched Jang Young-ran’s dance moves with enthusiasm, lightening the mood from the start.
Kim Sung-ryung recounted her journey, which began with winning the Miss Korea title, followed by hosting “Entertainment Weekly” and acting in the film “Who Has Seen the Dragon’s Claws?” He revealed that he worked tirelessly without stopping, earning rookie awards for “Who Has Seen the Dragon’s Claws?” but is experiencing a 16-year hiatus from cinema due to bad luck.
He said his biggest breakthrough came with the drama “The Chaser”, followed by “King of Ambition” and “The Heirs”, which marked the pinnacle of his career. Despite his extensive work, he noted, “It was only then that people really started to recognize me. Even though I worked a lot, I wasn’t really remembered.“
Kim Sung-ryung candidly shared a turning point in his life, “At one point I was hit in the back of the head. After giving birth, I wanted to show that a mom can still be nice and inspiring. That’s when I think I matured. My husband made fun of me, calling me a dissatisfied celebrity. I decided to take things seriously, so when I was around 35, I transferred to the Department of Theater and Film at Kyung Hee University. I had never formally studied acting, so I thought it was necessary. I even graduated while pregnant with my second child.”
Kim Sung-ryung added: “Having children changed my life: it was like night and day. I realized that the acting I had done before was false. When I worked on “The King and Queen”, I gave it my all like never before.”
Kim Sung-ryung said she now lives alone in Seoul while her husband resides in Busan, enjoying solitude by occasionally “drinking alone.” As a mother of two sons in their 20s, she joked that she doesn’t know where they sleep, showing off her laid-back parenting style.
When asked about her husband in Busan, Kim Sung-ryung admitted: “Lately I feel guilty because I didn’t take care of him. Every time we call him, he always seems like he’s struggling, like, “I don’t feel well.” Sometimes I wonder if he regrets marrying me.”
When Jang Young-ran suggested that she spend her free time in Busan, Kim Sung-ryung replied, “I would be too bored. I already lived with my mother-in-law for three years during our time as newlyweds. I’ve lived in Busan quite a bit.” Jang Young-ran praised Kim Sung-ryung for his positivity, acknowledging how difficult it is to live with in-laws.
