On January 17, Dispatch reported that Kim Min-hee is pregnant with Hong Sang-soo’s child and is expected to give birth this spring.
The couple currently resides in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province. It was revealed that they conceived the baby naturally last summer and are now preparing to welcome their baby. On January 15, they were spotted visiting an obstetrics and gynecology clinic together.
Kim Min-hee received the best performance award last August for her role in Hong Sang-soo’s film “By The Stream” at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.
Wearing a flowy white dress that hid her figure, she took to the stage to accept the trophy. Expressing his love for Hong Sang-soo, both as a partner and as the film’s director, he said: “To the director who created such a beautiful film, I love your films.” After accepting the award, she came down from the stage, holding Hong Sang-soo’s hand tightly, sharing the moment of joy together.
Reports suggest that Kim Min-hee was already pregnant during the awards ceremony. Her loose-fitting white dress fueled speculation that it was chosen to hide her pregnancy.
Attention is now focused on the couple’s participation in the 75th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). Hong Sang-soo has a long-standing connection with the Berlinale, having been invited eight times in the past.
The Berlinale will announce its official competition films on the 21st, and Hong Sang-soo is rumored to have submitted a film for consideration. The public is curious to know if the couple, who are now expecting a child, will appear at the festival together.
Hong Sang-soo has been married since 1985 and has two daughters with his wife. While he lives with Kim Min-hee, he remains legally married to his wife.
Hong Sang-soo and Kim Min-hee’s relationship began nearly ten years ago, after the 2015 release of the film “Right Now, Wrong Then.” In November 2016, Hong Sang-soo filed for divorce from his wife, but the Seoul Family Court dismissed the case in 2019. Hong Sang-soo did not appeal the decision, leaving his marriage legally intact.
The couple officially acknowledged their relationship during the press conference for the 2017 film “On the Beach at Night Alone,” where they said: “We are in love.” Since then, Kim Min-hee has appeared exclusively in Hong Sang-soo’s films, maintaining an intermittent career in the entertainment industry.
