His “Valentine’s Day” event has resurfaced online.
Gifts, in the beginning, came from fans to their favorite celebrities. As time went on, however, the exchange of gifts became quite mutual. Now, celebrities often choose to surprise their fans with gifts. From snacks to luxury goods, these gifts have become known as “역조공” (yeokjogong)—a term meaning “reverse offer” to defend the gift culture from idol to fan.

And while most celebrities go viral for showering their fans with extravagant gifts, the first TVXQ member Kim Junsutime of JYJ AND JX fame, is inflamed for his “economic” offer.
After it was revealed that Kim Junsu was blackmailed for over ₩800 million KRW (approximately $573,000 USD)…

…his past “Valentine’s Day Event” resurfaced.
The event, held in February 2024, began with Kim Junsu announcing that he will choose 24 fans to receive special gift boxes from him. In a YouTube video, Kim Junsu showed himself packing the boxes:
Soon after, the two dozen fans who received the boxes shared photos of the goods they received. The photos showed a variety of Korean candies and chocolates, and some of the lucky few even received Kim Junsu’s autograph and polaroid photos.
These images have since made the rounds online, triggering some intense reactions from K-Pop fans who expect more from the second-generation star. The post has garnered over 128,000 views with 1,4,000 comments, all regarding the contents of the Valentine’s Day boxes.
Most fans pointed out the “lack of thought” stepping into the gifts, criticizing the idol for doing too little. Some even brought up Kim Junsu’s otherwise extravagant life, nudging his supercar collection, and attacked him for being “economic” with his fans.
Others attacked him with a more blatant accusation, claiming that he had stolen from his fans to fund his encounters with female streamers.
- “It makes me sad.”
- “I think if he had included whole packets of snacks, it would have been OK. But the fact that he split the snacks is what makes me angry. LMAO.”
- “In 2024?!”
- “What are those, rice crackers? This reminds me of the snack lineup in office break rooms… Olive Young’s Ritter Sport chocolate would have been better.
- “I HATE comparing the gifts fans receive, so I tend not to comment. But even for me this is ridiculous. I guess no one in your management is smart about things like that? If he wanted to make a whole video out of it, he shouldn’t have included the cheap “break room” snacks and added Godiva quality chocolate. Handwritten messages and lipsticks/perfumes would make a solid Valentine’s Day box. He obviously has no idea what he’s doing. To release this movie to a mere group of 24 fans… It’s so sad.”
- “Those are the same types of snacks my mom packs when she goes on a hike. LOL. It’s amazing that he still has fans.”
- “Are you telling me his fans are okay with receiving this…? True love, I tell you.

- “Wow, LOL. It’s something else, HAHA. He’s stingy AND inconsiderate.”
- “I pack the same snacks when I attend a group seminar at work.”
- «Don’t you live in Signiel? What is this?”
- “Even beginners offer better.”
- “Wow, this is so embarrassing.”
- “This is from 2024?!”
- “Are we sure he didn’t steal snacks from the break room in his office?”
Amid online rumors, Kim Junsu reiterated in a second statement that he “He is the victim and did not commit any illegal acts related to this incident.”
