On the December 21st episode of SBS Running Man Kim Jong Kook left a sincere impression when he gave Song Ji Hyo a gold key worth around 400,000 KRW (~$300) as a Christmas gift, symbolizing luck and love.
The special ‘Reach for Your Christmas Present’ competition saw the cast in festive attire as they exchanged anonymously prepared gifts. Among the fun and thoughtful gifts were a foot scrub, a used hair styler, body lotion, glassware, leopard print underwear and one standout item: a real gold key.
When the golden key was revealed, the cast was amazed at its value. Ji Suk Jin quickly pointed to Yoo Jae Suk as the likely donor, joking that he was the richest, but Yoo denied this. The unexpected benefactor turned out to be Kim Jong Kook, known for his thrifty personality.
Explaining the gesture, Kim said: “It’s the end of the year and I wanted to give something meaningful. That’s why I also learned to shop online.” He then revealed that the gift was specifically intended for Song Ji Hyo. “Gold is a symbol of luck. I hope Ji Hyo meets a good man and becomes happy,” he said, sparking an emotional moment.
Kim also explained that she chose half a gold don (a traditional Korean weight measurement), saying: “I prepared half don so that he can find his other half. Together they will become one. I don’t need it anymore.” His words touched Song Ji Hyo, who responded with a warm hug.
However, due to the rules of the game, she was not allowed to claim the gift unless she correctly guessed who it was from. When it failed, Kim laughed and said: “I got all the credit, now I’m taking it back. Honestly, I was hoping he couldn’t get it right.”

This touching moment comes shortly after Song Ji Hyo opened up in a previous episode, revealing for the first time that she was in an eight-year relationship that ended about four or five years ago. He shared that none of the cast members knew the man, further surprising fans.
As fans continue to cheer for both stars, this unexpected gesture from Kim Jong Kook has reignited discussions about their long-standing chemistry and unspoken bond.
