Actress Kim Ji Won recently attracted attention after it was revealed that she chose to drop out of middle school rather than attend for another year. Instead, he continued his education by passing the Korean Equivalency Exam (GED).
During his middle school years, Kim Ji Won stayed in the United States for about six months with his maternal relatives, following his parents’ open-minded educational philosophy. Upon returning to Korea, he intended to re-enroll in school, but found that only six months remained in the academic year, which meant he would have to spend another year completing his studies. Faced with this situation, he decided to finish middle school through the GED system instead of returning to formal schooling.
After passing the middle school equivalency exam, he continued with the school leaving exam and successfully obtained the qualification. Around this time, Kim Ji Won was picked up off the street by an entertainment agency, marking the beginning of her journey to becoming a singer and actress. She followed three years of training in acting, singing, choreography and Japanese, dedicating herself to both artistic and academic activities. Despite his demanding life as an apprentice, he later enrolled in high school and participated in evening self-study sessions.
Due to her busy schedule, Kim Ji Won admitted that she missed out on typical school experiences. She once said that acting in dramas where she played schoolgirl roles helped her “relive” those lost memories.
