At the 30th Busan International Film Festival (Biff 2025), actress Kim Da-Mi opened the challenges she had to face during the filming of the long-awaited Netflix sci-fi blockbuster blockbuster The big flood.
On September 19, director Kim Byung-Woo and Kim Da-Mi participated in a greeting on the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae. The film is presented today in the Korean cinema – Special Premiere Secation and has already generated a strong hum in view of its global release on December 19th.
Reflecting on watching the film with the Biff audience, Kim Da-Mi shared: “I didn’t expect to see him here at the Busan International Film Festival. Looking on a big screen made me nervous but also deeply moved. The experience together with the public was emotional and unforgettable.”
Director Kim Byung-Woo explained the meaning of the title: “The name itself leaves a strong impression, and I thought it would have been interesting to start a story in that way. But the film does not end only with the impression of a great flood. There are gender variations and the way the theme is used gives it different meanings.”
Speaking of her character Anna, Kim Da-Mi said: “At the beginning, the public could ask who Anna really was. I didn’t want her personality traits to be revealed too early. While the story advances, Anna turns and wanted to portray that growth.”
Kim Da-Mi also revealed the physical challenges of shooting heavy water scenes: “I did not realize how much water it would be involved. I tried to get used to me before filming, but some scenes asked us to act as if we were underwater even when we didn’t do it. I learned while I went on, and it was a difficult but rewarding experience.”
The big flood It describes the desperate struggle of humanity for survival on the last day of the earth, while the catastrophic floods envelop the planet and a group of survivors fight within a complex of submerged apartments.
This year’s biff, which takes place from 17 to 26 September, shows 242 official films – 17 more than last year. Including the selections of the biff of the community, a total of 324 works are presented, highlighting the reputation of the festival as one of the greatest celebrations of Asian cinema.
