On December 11, the ARA agency released a long statement via its official SNS, saying: “We, together with our affiliated artist and LIU law firm, have decided to appeal the civil case related to the YouTube channel “Sojang”.“
Kang Daniel’s team said: “On November 27, the Seoul Central District Court, Civil Division 29, sentenced Defendant A, the operator of “Sojang”, to pay damages amounting to KRW 30 million. The court recognized all charges, including publishing false and provocative videos and gross defamation of our artist’s reputation.”
They explained: “However, considering the severity of the defendant’s illegal actions, the methods employed, and the prolonged exposure that caused significant mental anguish to our artist, we believe the sentence is unacceptably lenient. False information spreads easily, but correcting these lies causes immense pain and leaves lasting scars. After careful consideration, and sharing the same concerns about the undue leniency of the criminal trial, we have decided to appeal.”
Kang Daniel’s team added: “We firmly believe that tougher sanctions are essential for those who exploit the suffering of others for profit and remorselessly parasitize society. This is particularly crucial as victims face enormous pressure from the early stages of litigation and endure a long and challenging battle. We sincerely hope that the appeals process will give a fair and rigorous judgment that reflects the seriousness of the crime.”
Kang Daniel’s team pointed out: “Please be assured that we will take strict legal action against anyone who indiscriminately spreads false information, engages in defamation or launches baseless attacks against our artists.”
