The teaser controversy have triggered a viral backlash.
Korean singer -songwriter 20 (also known as Raehwan) He aroused a great online recipload after the release of teaser images for his next single, “Eye Candy”.
The track is destined to descend on April 11, but the release has already become controversial while the teasers of images published on April 3 have led to great criticism from the international fans and netizen.
The controversy derives from the style seen in the promotional images. In teaser, 20 appears in a white tank top and a matching Dug, posing on a bright pink background. Once shared on the social media channel of his company, the posts received a strong backlash. Many fans quickly underlined the cultural insensitivity behind the look.
The Dugs are historically worn by blacks as a protective hair accessory and since then they have become deeply rooted in black fashion and cultural identity. Over the years they have also become a symbol of self-expression for the black community. For this reason, when non -black individuals wear them without recognizing their origin or meaning, it is labeled as a cultural appropriation.
