‘JYP PROTECT YOUR ARTIST’: Fans urge label to take action against TWICE, ITZY, and NMIXX deepfake videos

As “new nth room” and related deepfake crimes unfold in South Korea, fandoms of TWICE, ITZY, and NMIXX are calling on JYP to take action after the victims were discovered to be artists.

On August 30, the fandoms of artists JYP ONCE (TWICE), MIDZY (ITZY), and NSWER (NMIXX) joined forces to catch the attention of JYP Entertainment after the girl groups were featured on several deepfake porn websites.

The members’ photos were digitally altered to make them n*de and their faces were also used in adult content.

Tens of thousands of deepfakes have been discovered online, and since most of them have been active for years, some of their members have become victims of this crime when they were still minors.

To demand immediate legal action, JYP fans used hashtags and sent mass emails on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), using the following keywords:

A list containing the names of more than 200 female idols targeted by deepfake video creators and posted on R-19 channels began circulating on social media on Thursday.

This list has been shared across the web and social media in an effort to raise awareness of the increasing incidents involving digitally altered photos and adult content using idols.

The so-called “New Nth Room” recently emerged, a messaging platform that used Telegram to share explicit and illegal deepfake videos of numerous women.

This case has two levels: the first where adult men humiliate women and family members using their deepfake content, and the second where male students share R-19 deepfake videos of their classmates. Most of the victims are between the ages of 13 and 19.

This is different from the original “Nth Room” case from 2020, in which numerous women and children were blackmailed and treated as sex slaves by hundreds of Korean men in different chat rooms.

However, both of them used Telegram to share such videos and were used to blackmail victims into committing heinous acts.

When the scandal was brought to light again, some netizens linked Taeil’s sex crime case to the original “nth room,” speculating that the celebrity, along with 200 other male idols, were involved.

There is also a rumor circulating that Taeil’s victim was a minor, whom he blackmailed and molested for six years.

However, the police handling his case denied his connection to Room N and said that an “adult woman” had filed a complaint against him in June.

Meanwhile, since K-pop idols are vulnerable and can become victims of these contents, not only JYP stans but the entire K-pop community is helping to spread awareness and demand that major record labels address this huge problem.
