BTS’ Golden Maknae outdid himself again this year, this time with a song released in 2023.
Apple Music has announced its annual Global 2024 list, highlighting the year’s biggest releases, with Jungkook’s “Seven” at #47.
The list, which tracks the most streamed songs around the world, highlights music moguls like Kendrick Lamar, Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, SZA and Future.
“Seven” featuring Latto beat out tough competitors, such as Drake’s “Best I Ever Had,” which placed at No. 42, SZA’s “Kill Bill” (No. 46) and Beyoncé’s “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” (No. no. 49).
Jungkook, who was recently nominated for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, is one of only three Korean artists to make the list, alongside ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM’s “Magnetic” with their track “Perfect Night.”
“Seven” was released as a single in June 2023, immediately becoming a trailblazer upon release after breaking Spotify’s record for the most opening streams for a male and collaborative artist in history, as well as becoming the most big debut in 2023.
The song catapulted Jungkook’s solo career, making the youngest member of mega group BTS the first K-pop group to reach number one on Spotify’s US chart and the first Korean solo artist to debut at the top of the global chart.
All over the world, the track did numbers, to put it mildly. “Seven” set two Guinness World Records for the most streamed song on Spotify in a week (male) and the fastest time a song reached 100 million streams on Spotify (male).
By the end of October, the song had beaten musicians Justin Bieber and The Kid Laroi for two more records, the fastest time a piece of music reached 1 billion streams on Spotify (male), previously held by “Stay” by the duo and “As It Was” by Harry Styles and “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus in general. The track achieved victory in just 109 days.
