Appearing on Episode of 1 June of the YouTube channel Fata Jae-HyungJoo Woo-Jae opened on his unconventional path towards fame. His journey began when his candid photo of Street became viral during college, leading to an online fashion, radio concerts and finally to the model.
“I debuted with people like Jang Ki-Yong and Byun Woo-Seok”, he said. “But I knew since the beginning that I couldn’t be the main model, I was still doing a little radio work and managing my business.”
Joo recalled how his transition between modeling, transmission and acting put him in a “gray area” on which others in the sector looked down.
“When I went to transmit, people said:” It’s just a model. “When I went back to modeling, they said:” He is just a television boy. “It was as if I didn’t belong anywhere.”
The most surprising revelation came when he shared an anecdote behind the scenes from his first days of modeling.
“I did not come from a model academy, I came from the street. This led to a lot of jealousy. I felt people by chance tell the designers not to throw myself, just because I had not followed the traditional path.”
Joo also faced acting resistance. “When I tried to act, people would not take me seriously. They would say:” Isn’t it just a broadcaster? “I felt blocked, lost between three identities.”
Despite these challenges, Joo has chosen perseverance with respect to defeatism.
“In the end, I thought:” If people want to put me in a box, well. But I know I can do all three. So I will continue to make TV and the catwalk. “
