On April 6, Jiyeon published a short video and a caption on his account on social media which said “cano instead of Kono” (a comedy on conditions of Karaoke Korean).
The video shows Jiyeon singing in the car during the trip. He chose Lee Ye-Jun’s emotional ballad “on that day” and showed his powerful voice during performance.
The texts attracted the attention of fans for their emotional depth, with lines such as “I cried as much as the cigarettes you smoked”, “Don’t say that my words have been offensive” AND “You can’t do the homework that I finished it for you.” Many have interpreted the texts as a reflection of the emotional state of Jiyeon after his divorce.
Jiyeon and the professional baseball player Hwang Jae-Gyun married in December 2022. However, their wedding was plagued by multiple rumors about divorce before the couple officially divided. The rumors gained traction when a commentator mentioned their divorce during a live radio broadcast and further speculations presented themselves when the couple was seen without their wedding rings.
Both sides in the end confirmed the news, affirming, “The two were unable to overcome their differences and, after a period of separation, agreed to divorce and submit a mediation request to the Court of the Seoul family.” The divorce was finalized on November 20.
After the divorce, Hwang Jae-Gyun resumed his sporting career and shared a cryptic Instagram story that cites the texts of “The Phoenix” by Fall Out Boy, including the sentence “I’m preparing for the war.” Like his first post after divorce, he attracted considerable public attention and aroused online conversations.
