At the Melon Music Awards 2024 (MMA 2024), held on November 30 at Incheon Inspire Arena, (G)I-DLE was awarded Record of the Year.
Known for their unique and diverse musical style, the group shared: “Thank you to everyone who gave us this incredible award and for loving us this year. My mind is completely blank right now. The reason we can enjoy making music is because of our fans. Thank you to our hardworking members, our families and everyone who supported us. We will continue to work even harder.”
They continued: “This is the first time we have received a first prize and it is a real honor. We are so grateful to everyone who loved our albums and songs. Since we produce our own albums, this seems even more significant. We will continue to create good music and show you our best sides, so stay with us for a long, long time.” The members became emotional and shed tears as they spoke.
Soyeon then addressed the rumors surrounding the group, “Next year will mark our eighth year. For the last seven years we have been wondering how we could win a major award and what kind of album we should create. There’s one last thing I want to say. There have been so many articles recently saying we’re going to disband because our contracts are about to expire. But all five of us decided to renew our contracts. Before going on stage today we talked about it together. It’s not just me, but every single member. We will continue to be five members forever, so please don’t worry. We will work even harder moving forward.” His heartfelt words drew cheers and applause from fans.
Meanwhile, Soyeon was absent from (G)I-DLE’s dinner recently, sparking rumors that the contract renewal failed.
