In the episode of SBS variety show “My Ugly Duckling” that aired on November 24, actor Lee Chun-hee and his wife Jeon Hye-jin were visited by Bae Jeong-nam.
Lee Chun-hee, once called the “Cinderella” of a goofy hero variety show, revealed that she met Jeon Hye-jin at a camping trip. He proudly showed off his house full of curtains, “This is our home,” and revealed that he had been camping for 15 years.
Lee Chun-hee and Jeon Hye-jin have been married for 14 years since 2011 and have a daughter together. When Jeon Hye-jin, who debuted as a child actress with the role of “Eun-shil”, appeared, Lee Chun-hee immediately offered to cook for her, showing honeymoon-like affection even after 14 years of marriage. At the time of their marriage, Lee Chun-hee was 32 years old and Jeon Hye-jin was only 23, and they were still in college.
Lee Chun-hee revealed that after their drama ended, she contacted Jeon Hye-jin first. When asked if he had feelings for her during the drama, he said: “I called her ‘Ji-su’ (her character’s name), but when I saw her again, she wasn’t the Ji-su I knew. She came to pick me up in her new car.”
To this, Jeon Hye-jin responded, “I had just bought a new car and he asked me to pick it up to show it. Honestly, I thought, ‘Who is this guy asking me to pick him up?'”
When asked who made the first move, Jeon Hye-jin shared, “One night we ended up talking all night. That’s when I thought, ‘What is this relationship?'”
Then he asked: “Do you have feelings for me?” to which Lee Chun-hee replied, “I did, but I still didn’t feel like dating. I was cautious because I didn’t want to risk ruining our friendship.”
Jeon Hye-jin then suggested, “Let’s meet first, and if it doesn’t work out, we can stay friends.” Lee Chun-hee admitted that they started dating 10 months later and got married.
Lee Chun-hee recalled how many people discouraged their marriage, saying that Jeon Hye-jin was too young at 23 and still building her career. Despite challenges, including marriage counseling early in their marriage, Jeon Hye-jin stressed that she has no regrets about her decision. He proudly mentioned their daughter, now a middle school student, saying: “Our daughter is already in middle school.”
