On October 11, actors Kim Hee-ae, Seol Kyung-gu, and Jang Dong-gun recalled their acting careers during a YouTube broadcast. The three stars, who appeared in the film Ordinary familydiscussed various topics with PD Na Young-seok in a video titled “Families Who Don’t Joke” on the YouTube channel “Channel 15.”
Jang Dong-gun recalled his debut in the 1992 drama Son and daughtersaying, “I shot scenes with wildflowers in the bushes.” He added that he joined MBC as an intern and had many unique experiences, including filming while holding branches and straw. Son and daughter Kim Hee-ae also starred.
Seol Kyung-gu shared that he was rejected at the MBC talent audition. He expressed his frustration, saying, “I graduated from the theater and film department, but my application was overlooked because it got stuck in the pile.” He later received an opportunity through the famous writer Jung Sung-joo.
Jang Dong-gun mentioned rumors in the industry about Seol Kyung-gu, saying, “There were rumors that a newcomer had joined and acted strangely.” Seol Kyung-gu later learned this from Jang Dong-gun.
Kim Hee-ae reflected on the beginnings of her acting career, revealing that she thought about retiring in her 20s due to doubts about her path. He recalled the difficult filming conditions of that period, stating: “Everything was primitive. We had to film while traveling in a cart that could lose a wheel at any time on an incline,” adding that there were many dangerous situations that made her feel like she was about to die. She explained how her love for acting grew, leading her to return to the industry after a seven-year hiatus following her marriage.
The actors also argued Ordinary family. Jang Dong-gun explained their family roles in the film, saying, “Despite the complicated conflicts, our family shows a strong human bond.” Kim Hee-ae described the film as a depiction of how a normal family changes due to specific circumstances.
Their relationship with PD Na Young-seok was also highlighted. Na recalled the shooting Sisters on flowers with Kim Hee-ae ten years ago and expressed his admiration for her long career, which began in the 1980s. Kim Hee-ae reflected, “Time passes so quickly. Looking back, 10 or 20 years seems like a moment.”
