Iu And byun Woo Seok is confirmed to guide the next MBC drama “21st Century Princess Consort”, which is now scheduled for the first half of 2026.
The drama marks the first collaboration between the two popular stars in an MBC production. According to reports, it will be broadcast as part of the Friday-Savor range of the network.
Set in a fucking 21st century Korea where the country is a constitutional monarchy, “Princess consort of the 21st century” Centers on romanticism between Seong Hee Joo, a rich woman who remains more common despite her privileges, and the great Prince Lee Wan, a real that ardently want freedom beyond his title.
The IU will play Seong Hee Joo, the second ambitious and intelligent daughter of a powerful family who seeks a noble status to complete her life. Byun Woo Seok assumes the role of the great prince Lee Wan, the second son of the king, worshiped by the public but feels constrained by his real obligations.
To be part of the main cast there are Noh Sang Hyun, known for his roles in “Pachinko” and “Love in the Big City”, and Gong Seung Yeon, recognized for his performances in “The Killing Vote” and “The First Wndndners”. Noh Sang Hyun will play Min Jung Woo, a brilliant prime minister and friend of the prince of the prince, while Gong Seung Yeon will play Yoon Yi Rang, a woman determined to become queen, coming from a family with a legacy of royalty.
The script for the “21st century Princess Consort” won the MBC dramatic script competition of 2022 and was praised for its new characters and the engaging plot that explores themes of love, ambition and social barriers. The drama is written by Yoo Ah in and directed by Park Joon Hwa.
Production faced rumors at the beginning of this year regarding possible withdrawal by IU and byun Woo Seok due to disagreements on the international show distribution platform. Reports suggested that actors preferred Netflix, while MBC was in negotiations with Disney+ for distribution abroad. However, the agencies of both stars denied these statementsConfirming that IU and byun Woo Seok remain engaged in the project and are preparing for the shooting as expected.
