UIthe agency, EDAM Entertainment, took legal action against multiple individuals for harassing the singer online.
On November 11, KST and EDAM released a statement saying that they had filed official complaints for serious cases of harassment that met the requirements to be considered criminal acts, such as threats against the artist, defamation through the dissemination of false information, accusations allegations of plagiarism, death threats, and privacy violations, as well as the creation and distribution of AI-generated deepfake content, among others.
According to UI representatives, the agency has reported about 180 people and more reports are pending. So far, six fine cases are under summary proceedings, while three cases of suspended prosecution with instruction and one case of suspended probation with probation supervision have been issued as sentences or dispositions. Among them, a defendant who committed cyberbullying against IU by spreading baseless false information about her online, resulting in defamation and death threats, was fined ₩3.00 million KRW (approximately $2,140 USD). However, the accused contested the sentence and lodged an appeal.
The agency revealed that one of the individuals reported for falsely accusing IU of plagiarism through a foreign server is believed to be the singer’s former classmate.

The plagiarism accusations against IU sparked a huge controversy last year, leading EDAM to vigorously defend it artist.
Furthermore, the investigating authorities identified a person who accused IU of espionage. The suspect has reportedly refused numerous summonses from the authorities, but the case has now been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office and awaits a decision.
EDAM Entertainment reiterated its stance to continue pursuing legal action against people who make harmful posts against IU.
