It was previously reported that on Tuesday, December 3, the President of South Korea Yoon Suk Yeol declared “emergency martial law” via a televised briefing, vowing to do so “eradicate pro-North Korean forces and protect the constitutional democratic order.” He accused the opposition of “controlling parliament,” of “sympathizing” with North Korea and of immobilizing the government through anti-state actions.

As martial law was lifted, South Korea prepared to impeach President Yoon. The vote was scheduled for Saturday 7 December.

Now, the National Assembly is expected to hold another impeachment vote on President Yoon at 5pm on Saturday, December 14. The initial impeachment vote was held once on December 7. It was ultimately canceled due to “lack of quorum.”

Demonstrations and protests calling for President Yoon’s impeachment took place during this period. Protesters have gone viral for using K-Pop glow sticks in their protests.
