Actress and singer IU, known for her philanthropy, made headlines with another round of charitable contributions, this time to benefit protesters calling for President Yoon’s impeachment after calling for martial law.
On December 13, the actress’ agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced that protesters could fill their stomachs growling with IU’s money.
“To warm the cold hands of the UAENA (name of IU’s fandom) who hold up the lights and brighten the atmosphere of the event, IU prepared food and hand warmers,” the agency said.
“Please prioritize your health and safety and refer to the details below before visiting designated stores.”
The notice revealed that starting December 14 – the second impeachment vote – protesters could visit participating establishments for a free meal until supplies ran out. The quantities include 700 prepaid meals from five establishments, including cafes, soup restaurants and rice cake shops.
All protesters were encouraged to take advantage of the offer, which is not limited to official UAENA members. Protesters can receive food, drinks and hand warmers on a first-come, first-served basis by mentioning “UAENA” at designated locations.
The second impeachment vote against President Yoon is scheduled for December 14 at 4pm during a plenary session of the National Assembly.
The first vote was canceled because too few legislators participated in the vote.
