South Korean singer and actress Iu He donated 200 million KRW (about $ 136,000) to support the victims of fatal fires that infuriate in southern South Korea.
The Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association announced Wednesday that IU, whose real name is Lee Ji-Eun, has made a generous contribution to help the victims of fires and improve the conditions for the firefighters who work in disaster areas. The organization plans to divide donations in the same way, giving 100 million KRW to support fire victims and the other half to help the firefighters.
“I hope this can provide some relief to the affected people, and I extend my deepest sympathies to the victims. I sincerely hope that the fires will be extinguished soon without further victims” said in a declaration.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the dedication of the firefighters who are working hard to publish them,” he continued.
This is not the first time that IU contributes to rescue efforts in the event of calamity. Previously he donated to support the victims of flood in 2020 and the East Coast Wildfire Relief in 2022
South Korea is currently struggling with one of the worst outbreaks of fires in its history, which began on Friday 21 March. Starting from Wednesday, the fires caused at least 24 lives and wounded another 26, most of which has about 60 and 70s BBCciting the authorities. Fires also forced over 23,000 people to evacuate their homes.
About 17,398 hectares (42,991 acres) of earth were charred, making this the second fire larger in the history of South Korea.
The fires triggered for the first time in the County of Sancheong in the north of Gyeongsang. Since then it has spread to the south -eastern region of the country, with the most serious fires affecting the county of Uiseong, which represent 87% of the total burnt land. The Korea forestry service said that the firefighters are currently fighting Five active fires starting from Wednesday morning.
