K-Pop Girl Group Itzy confirmed that he is currently in the contract renewal discussions with Jyp Entertainment during a press conference held on Monday to celebrate the release of their new mini-album The girls will be girls.
During the press conference, the member Charyeong faced the situation of the contract, said: “I can’t believe that we are discussing to renew our contracts after seven years. We are in many discussions with the company and we will provide good news”.
The group, which debuted in February 2019, is now entering its seventh year together, marking the typical period when the K-Pop artists make decisions on the continuation of their agencies. It is not clear if all five members will be renewed with the agency. Ryujin has noticed, however, that they are determined to engage in group and solo activities regardless of the result of the discussions.
The announcement of the contract renewal came when Itzy released their tenth mini-album The girls will be girls On June 9, their first return in eight months from their previous “Gold” release in October 2024. The new album presents five songs including the song of the title “Girls Will Being”, together with “Kiss & Tell”, “Locked n Loaded”, “Promised” and “Walk”.
The track of the title “Girls Being Girls” offers a message on overcoming challenges through the unit, with the texts that express it “if we can be together, that alone is enough”. The music video, shot in Georgia, shows members as post-apocalyptic survivors who fight against monstrous creatures.
During the press conference At the Soutel Soul Ambassador in Songpa-Gu, the members underlined their strong bond and units as a group. The leader Yeji explained their concept of album.
“We thought about what new aspects we could show and what new messages we could transmit. This time, we wanted to emphasize the resonance of” we “as a group,” he said.
The discussions on the ITzy contract arrive at a time when several JYP entertainment groups successfully renewed their agreements. Stray Kids renewed their contracts at the beginning of July 2024, before the original expiry date. The entertainment company has generally maintained strong relations with its artists, with groups like twice renewing their contracts in recent years.
