On September 3, a video titled “Mom, Please Lend Me Money” was posted on the YouTube channel of Lee Jin-ho, a former entertainment journalist. The video highlights Han So-hee’s mother’s recent disturbing activities.
Lee Jin-ho shared: “I was the first to investigate the debt dispute involving Han So-hee’s mother and also spoke to her directly at the time. Her mother told me that she would no longer bother her daughter and would no longer contact her.”
However, he continued, “Although Han So-hee said she had cut ties with her mother, it is not easy to completely sever family ties. After a period of no contact following Han So-hee’s firm statement, her mother began contacting her again and they continued to communicate as mother and daughter.”
Lee Jin-ho also revealed that the reality was harsh, stating: “Once contact was re-established, the mother began to ask Han So-hee for financial assistance again. She also contacted the agency, causing considerable inconvenience to those involved.”
Regarding Han So-hee’s troubled childhood, she explained: “After her parents divorced when she was 5, Han So-hee was raised by her grandmother. She moved to Ulsan for high school to live with her mother, but was rejected and lived apart after her mother refused to live together. Later, before entering college, Han So-hee struggled with extreme financial difficulties and eventually dropped out of college to move to Seoul and start working as a model. It was then that her mother started asking for money.”
As Han So-hee’s career took off and she became a rising star, her mother’s financial demands increased. Despite Han So-hee’s efforts to deal with her mother’s financial mishaps, they continued to occur. Her mother would borrow money using Han So-hee’s name, and despite Han So-hee repeatedly covering for her, the problems persisted. It was even reported that her mother would ask for money right after the agency’s payday, claiming it was just a short-term loan. There are many unknown victims who have suffered because of her mother’s actions.
Previously, on September 2, TV Chosun reported that Han So-hee’s mother, identified as Shin, had been arrested for running more than ten illegal gambling dens. Shin had operated 12 gambling establishments in Ulsan and Wonju since 2021, using a front man. Customers would access the gambling sites Shin operated to top up gambling money and play games such as baccarat. Shin had previously been fined for similar offenses and had a history of fraud.
In response, Han So-hee released a statement through her agency, expressing her shock and distress upon learning of the situation through the news. The agency firmly stated, “This incident is entirely the result of the mother’s independent actions and has nothing to do with the actress.”
They also apologized for the inconvenience caused by sharing such personal matters, unrelated to Han So-hee’s professional work.
