ILLIT Directly Responds to Min Hee Jin’s Accusations of ‘Copying NewJeans’ and the Live Rumors Issue

During ILLIT’s media showcase, the quintet finally addressed claims that they “lack” live vocal abilities, as well as Min Hee Jin’s accusation that they are “copycats” of NewJeans.

On October 21st, ILLIT held their media showcase to commemorate their comeback with their second mini-album, “I’LL LIKE YOU”.

During the event, the members presented their new title track “Cherish (My Love)”, as a song that “upgraded” the group to another level. The group also expressed aspirations to become a “representative of the fifth generation” with their own colors.

But among the questions asked of them, what caught the media’s attention were their responses to past controversies.

When asked if they felt upset that ILLIT was mentioned for “copying” NewJeans amid the ADOR-HYBE internal battle, Yunah denied this.

“We prepared our second mini-album thinking about the fans who supported ILLIT no matter the situation, with the aim of showing them our good image.

The team’s first anniversary also coincided with the preparation of our album, so we thought about the supporters who allowed us to be ILLIT for a year and the constant love our fans have given us.”

Members also sternly pointed out that ILLIT has different colors than NewJeans.

“We decided to focus on showing our color so we can protect the hearts of those who love ILLIT.

We prepared our second mini-album with the intention of following our own path.”

During the interview, the press also raised controversy about their “poor” singing abilities.

Iroha, who was one of the members who was heavily criticized for his voice, responded:

“I listened well to many people’s opinions and practiced in detail and meticulously. I will work hard to grow more as ILLIT.”

Yunah added:

“While preparing for our second mini-album, we performed on various stages, such as overseas shows and university festivals. Not only did we work hard while preparing for the stages, but these various experiences also became the basis for our growth.”
