Lee Chaeyeon received negative criticism for publicly showing support for President Yoon Seok Yeol’s impeachment, but the former IZ*ONE member has hit back.
While a plethora of celebrities remain silent on the situation in South Korea right now, Lee Chaeyeon bravely used her SNS platform to send her support to the recent candlelight vigils held for President Yoon’s impeachment. She also encouraged her fans to join her.
However, due to her celebrity image, some have expressed their concerns about her bold move, and many have told her that it is not her place to talk about politics. Many also highlighted his “carelessness”.
Amid the backlash, Lee Chaeyeon surprisingly responded to her critics, writing:
“It’s not my place to talk about politics? So what kind of position allows someone to talk about politics? I will do what I have to do as a citizen and as a member of society. I will mention things when I need to A.
I’m a celebrity, so I’ll speak up. I know very well that you are worried that I will say this because I am an idol. But I am also a citizen. I appreciate your concern. We live in a better world. We love to our heart’s content in that world.”
Afterwards, criticism of the idol did not subside as Choi Soon Sil’s daughter Jeong Yura, who was involved in a political issue in 2016, targeted the K-pop idol.

Jeong Yura questioned the idol’s intentions and wrote on Facebook:
“It’s true that position is not necessary when talking about politics, but it becomes a problem when suddenly you talk about it and until now you weren’t interested in it at all.”
She continued:
“Wake up. Are you even aware that the Democratic Party has squandered the budget? (…) If you want to speak freely, understand the situation well before you speak.”
