On September 12, a joy screening and special GV for the movie “Victory” was held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Director Park Bum-soo, Hyeri, Park Se-wan, and Anna Lee, CEO of Annapurna Films, were in attendance.
During the event, Hyeri tearfully shared: ““Victory” has had many ups and downs since the beginning. It’s a film I’m very proud of. I really hope you understand this sincerity.”
Hyeri continued: “Many people left feedback after seeing “Victory,” and I received so much support. I wanted to give back that support, which is why I tried to reach more audiences, promoting the film both inside and outside of theaters. I was grateful for the love shown towards “Victory,” and my greatest desire was to give back..”
He further expressed: ““Victory” gave me so many emotions. It’s a movie that makes me cry in different ways, whether it’s from joy, sadness, frustration or happiness. It really has a special place in my heart..”
“Victory” began its resurgence on September 10. Released on August 14, the film was ranked #8 on September 1, but its sudden rise surprised many.
Hyeri and Park Se-wan actively promoted the film online and offline, including responding to social media posts and regularly attending promotional events in the film’s fourth week of release.
However, there have been suspicions of “sajaegi” (rating manipulation) surrounding the film’s sudden popularity. In response, distributor Mindmark has released an official statement explaining, “Some corporate and group screenings were scheduled before the Chuseok holiday, resulting in increased attendance on weekdays.“
They added: “Sold-out midweek screenings that have caused controversy in online communities have been confirmed as corporate and group screenings. Group screenings are usually not available for general booking on booking platforms, but the schedule of some screenings has been mistakenly opened to the public, causing misunderstandings.”
Meanwhile, “Victory” tells the story of the “Millennium Girls”, a passionate amateur cheerleading club, who inspire everyone with their energetic dances and songs.
