Hyein’s emotional moment on YouTube
That same day, Hyein indirectly expressed her emotions. In a video titled “Introducing NewJeans Hyein’s favorite neighborhood,” uploaded to comedian Park Myung-soo’s YouTube channel Myungsoo thingthe veteran entertainer handed her a handwritten letter. The letter said: “I hope you continue to grow as a major K-pop star and that NewJeans becomes the best group in the world. I feel the way a father would feel.” Moved, Hyein appeared on the verge of tears, recalling the gesture “too emotional”. The contractual dispute opens
NewJeans said Nov. 29 that it would terminate its exclusive contracts with ADOR, citing violations by the agency. The group said it sees no need for further legal action, such as filing injunctions or paying fines. They also asserted their right to continue using the New Jeans brand, given their contribution to the success of the brand.
In response, ADOR filed a lawsuit seeking to confirm the validity of the contracts, expressing their unwavering desire to continue working with the group.
However, major industry organizations such as the Korea Entertainment Producers Association and the Korea Management Federation have expressed concern over NewJeans’ actions. They criticized the group for what they described it as “Irresponsible and unfounded claims that threaten the foundations of K-pop.” These groups urged members to reconcile with ADOR and resume normal activities.
NewJeans’ accusations against ADOR
Despite the backlash, NewJeans stood its ground. The group said it had already returned profits in excess of ADOR’s investments in them, thus negating any further obligations to the agency. They also accused ADOR of surveillance, slander and attempts to sow discord between members and former CEO Min Hee-jin, leading to a breakdown in trust.
The group said that after announcing the termination of the contract, they attempted to fulfill their remaining schedules with ADOR. However, they said staff assisting them had their laptops confiscated and were subjected to snap investigations, calling the agency “unethical and inhumane”.
Channel A also reported on allegations that ADOR subjected NewJeans to frequent and unnecessary meetings and harassment, and even forced managers to hand over their personal phones and kept them in the office for over three hours against their will.
The consequences of this high-profile dispute continue to unfold, with both sides remaining firm in their positions.
