Following her controversial “no bra” movement in 2019, Hwasa revealed the story behind it and how it became the most “unexpected” issue of her career.
In the video recently uploaded to YouTube channel Studio Suze, TV personality Jang Sung Kyu welcomed MAMAMOO Hwasa as his special visitor.
During their appearance, the two spoke about the controversies that have hit the solo artist, including how she started the “no bra” movement in 2019.

At the time, Hwasa caused quite a stir when she showed up at the airport without a bra, despite the criticism the late Sulli unleashed for doing so first.
Surprisingly, many women supported her in this and encouraged them to give up bras. In a conservative country, Hwasa gave them the courage to free themselves from wearing bras, considering the comfort and health benefits it could bring them later in life.
However, male journalists scandalized this movement and harshly criticized Hwasa for challenging social norms and culture.

After five years, Hwasa confessed that she was shocked that it had become such a big deal and explained that one day she woke up and shocked the Korean industry by not wearing underwear.
Hwasa said:
“It gets really uncomfortable for me. When I wear a bra, I always feel so bloated after eating. I’ve had indigestion every day since I was little.”
He continued:
“I was wondering… How long should I keep wearing it? So, I decided to start not wearing it in more casual settings, where it’s okay. But… I didn’t know it was such a big deal. I didn’t know it was that serious.”
