Hwasa hints at breakup with 12-year-old businessman and reflects on ‘Goodbye’

Singer Hwasa shared her thoughts on experiencing a “good goodbye,” potentially hinting at her alleged breakup with a businessman 12 years her senior. She appeared on the October 22 episode of SBS PowerFM Cultwo Show alongside comedian Hong Yoon-hwa.

Hwasa recently released her new song “Goodbye”, a ballad that combines rhythmic melodies with her emotionally rich voice. He participated in both the writing and the composition of the song, which traces a past love while wishing the other person true happiness. The heartfelt lyrics resonated with many listeners.

Describing the song, Hwasa explained: “I called it a ‘Hwasa-style ballad.’” He continued, “The title means ‘good goodbye,’ but when I first wrote it, people around me were wondering, ‘Can such a thing really exist?’ or ‘I’ve never had a good goodbye.'” He added, “After I released the song, people started telling me, ‘Even though I’ve never had one, I feel like I understand what it means now.’ This made me feel proud.

When host Kim Tae-gyun asked her if she had ever had a good goodbye, she commented, “It’s hard to believe it could exist between lovers.” Hwasa replied confidently, “I think it’s possible.” Kim added, “I agree. You can love someone but still be stressed in the relationship. If the connection isn’t right, breaking up might be better.”

In 2023, Hwasa was said to be in a relationship with a businessman 12 years older than her, whom she had reportedly been dating for five years. His agency at the time declined to confirm the relationship, citing respect for his private life.

Earlier this year, Hwasa appeared on the YouTube channel Naraesik with model Han Hye-jin, where he remarked, *”Aren’t the three of us single now?”*—a comment many interpreted as subtle confirmation of a breakup.

With her new song and thoughtful reflections, Hwasa appears to be navigating love and closure on her own terms.
