On October 4, legal sources confirmed that Hwang Jung Eum chose not to submit an appeal after being sentenced to two years in prison with four years of supervised freedom for undue appropriation of 4.34 billion KRW from Hunminjeongeum Entertainment, a company in which he held 100% owned.
The District Court of Jeju had previously issued the sentence on September 25, citing violations of the law on aggravated punishment of specific economic crimes (embezzlement). With public ministries who choose not to appeal, the verdict of the first process is now definitive.
By the way, an official from the Hwang agency, Y1 Entertainment, told Xports News on October 4th: “The actress Hwang Jung Eum respects the decision of the court and sincerely apologizes for having aroused concern for his fans and the public. He will strive to return as a more mature and responsible actress.”
The case dates back to July 2022, when Hwang borrowed ₩ 800 million people with the name of Hunminjeongeum Entertainment and subsequently transferred ₩ 700 million from the company account in his personal account, investing in cryptocurrency under the pretext of provisional payments. Between July and October 2022, he repeated similar transactions 13 times, finally channeling over 4.2 billion of business funds in investments in cryptocurrency.
Hwang has completely reimbursed the damages and admitted to all the accusations in court. During his first trial sentence, he apologized to tears, stating that he was sorry for the problem caused.
