On December 3 and 4, online communities and social media platforms were flooded with concerned reactions from ARMYs and netizens regarding the discharge dates of BTS members currently serving in the military.
Fans shared posts like, “Please let our Jimin be discharged safely,” “Our kids are just a few days away from discharge” “Does a delay mean their discharge dates will be pushed back?” AND “Is the BTS discharge delayed indefinitely?” express your anxiety about the situation.
Currently, RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook are serving on active duty, while Suga is serving his alternative service as a social services officer. Jin, who was the first to enlist, was discharged in June, followed by J-Hope in October. Suga will complete his service on June 21, 2025, with RM and V scheduled for discharge on June 10, and Jimin and Jungkook on June 11 of the same year.
However, following President Yoon Suk-yeol’s declaration of martial law at 10:24 pm (KST) on December 3, the discharge dates of active duty soldiers, including BTS members, were delayed, causing widespread concern among the fans.
Subsequently, at around 1 am on December 4, the National Assembly passed a resolution to abolish martial law with unanimous support from the 190 legislators present. President Yoon Suk-yeol lifted the declaration of martial law about six hours later, at 4:30 am the same day.
This was announced by the Ministry of National Defense “With the abolition of martial law, the postponement of discharge of active duty soldiers was canceled,” adding that “All measures implemented during martial law have been lifted.” This confirmed that BTS member discharge programs would proceed as planned, providing relief to ARMYs.
