According to the police on November 13, Song Jae-rim was found dead in his home on November 12, with no signs of foul play. A suicide note was reportedly found at the scene.
On DC Inside “Song Jae-rim Gallery,” which served as an unofficial fan community, many express their grief and suggest that harassment from sasaeng fans may have contributed to his death.
Fans shared that a sasaeng fan from another country used their social media account to torment Song Jae-rim. They believe the fan has been stalking the social media accounts of the actor’s friends, invading his privacy and causing problems in his personal relationships.
On his social media, the phrase “Starting a long journey” was sadly left as his last post. Her last photo, taken in the mirror, was posted in January and comments were disabled. Fans claim that the harassment from Sasaeng fans increased to the point that all photos from the summer were deleted.
A post from a close friend further supported these claims. On November 13, broadcaster Prime shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, “Jae-rim has embarked on a long journey from which he will never return.” He shared memories and photos of their time together, reminiscing about their friendship.
He continued, “I thought you were lonely like me and wanted to introduce you to many good people around you. But, due to the obsessive behavior of a fan, you found it increasingly difficult to get out and began to withdraw.” He expressed regret, “But Jae-rim, you communicated with us, your friends, in your own way, and I never noticed the little difficulties in your posts. Recently, when I received your message with your new contact information, I thought, “Jae-rim really appreciates even the smallest connections.” I said, “Let’s meet soon,” but now I regret that I couldn’t understand you as I should have.
In the meantime, the family has expressed the desire to celebrate a small funeral. The wake will be held at the funeral hall of Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital in Seoul, with the funeral scheduled for November 14. Burial will take place at the Seoul City Crematorium.
