Government agency responds to civil complaint filed against WINNER Seunghoon for ‘disrupting’ baseball game

The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has finally ruled on the controversy surrounding WINNER Seunghoon “interrupting” a game, a complaint filed as a civil complaint.

On September 11, the National Archives of Korea (NAK), a government agency, released its response to a civil complaint filed against the K-pop idol via KBO.

In particular, Lee Seunghoon, hereinafter referred to as Hoony, was invited to attend the match between Lotte Giants and Hanwha Eagles held at Sajik Baseball Stadium in Busan on the 28th of last month.

As the pride of his hometown of Busan, Seunghoon threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The K-pop star supported his team, Lotte, and filled the venue with positive energy by performing a ceremonial dance before throwing the ball.

Hoony also showed her satisfaction by posting a clip of her dance speech on her social network.

Unfortunately, the dance, which lasted 18 seconds, led to a civil complaint, as some baseball fans felt the act was “unnecessary” and merely a “nuisance.”

Locals urged the KBO to “immediately send an official letter to each team to prevent inappropriate first pitches by celebrities that disrupt the flow of the game and to develop thorough countermeasures.”

About two weeks after the incident was filed and confirmed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the KBO released its position on the NAK and stated:

“We are grateful for your concern regarding the controversy surrounding Lee Seunghoon’s first launch.

For the KBO, the priority is the smooth running of the game, the safety of the players and the satisfaction of the fans.

We will continue to consult with each team to avoid excessively disrupting the flow of gameplay when we host early-launch events in the future.”

Although the male idol showed intense passion in making his first pitch enjoyable and memorable, the gesture proved to be humiliating, as it was labeled as “first pitch that interrupts the flow of the game.”
