On December 6, Netflix Korea posted a video on its channel with the caption, “Why did Gong Yoo laugh at Seo Hyun-jin and call him ‘Darling’?” | Highlight Interview | Trunk,” which explored key scenes from their drama, including the first meeting of Jeong-won (played by Gong Yoo) and In-ji (played by Seo Hyun-jin).
In the featured scene, In-ji unexpectedly introduces herself as Jeong-won’s wife at a police station and says: “Come on, honey.” Gong Yoo admitted that he burst out laughing during filming, “I was so taken aback when he suddenly called me ‘darling.’”
Seo Hyun-jin teased Gong Yoo, asking if her laughter came from disbelief, which she agreed, praising her acting skills. “Even the director found it funny while watching the scene,” – added Gong Yoo.
The video also delved into other pivotal moments, such as the “chandelier scene,” which depicted Jeong-won’s traumatic childhood experience. Gong Yoo shared his personal aversion to chandeliers, “They give off a restless and precarious atmosphere.” Seo Hyun-jin jokingly imagined owning one in the future, prompting Gong Yoo to laugh and reply, “Maybe when I’m 60, my tastes will change.”
A highlight of their discussion was the tango scene, in which In-ji leads Jeong-won, creating intimacy between the characters. Gong Yoo surmised, “Jeong-won found In-ji endearing, which is why he kissed her impulsively.”
Reflecting on the kissing scene, both actors expressed embarrassment. Seo Hyun-jin fought to contain his laughter, while Gong Yoo remarked wryly, “I didn’t use a turn signal; I just tried,” fanning himself as if agitated. Seo Hyun-jin jokingly called him “a middle-aged man,” laughing at his reaction.
In another emotional scene where Jeong-won tells In-ji, “I missed you,” Gong Yoo commented, “Those words seem even more powerful than saying ‘I love you’.” Both actors also appreciated the lighting effects in the kissing scene, jokingly crediting the director for his encouragement and perfect timing.
The interview revealed the playful chemistry and professionalism of the two leads, raising anticipation for their drama “The Trunk.”
