SM Entertainment is facing backlash after Giselle revealed that the label rejected aespa’s self-written song. MY then recalled similar experiences of their seniors SNSD and EXO.
On December 2, aespa had its caramiamusa fan autograph event. Just then, one of the participants who was able to interact with Giselle asked her about the progress of the aespa song that she is recently making, together with the other members Karina, Winter and NingNing.
She initially sparked fans’ excitement after confirming that it had finally been completed, but Giselle immediately put an end to that wait by revealing that SM had rejected the song. He gave the OP permission to reveal this information and spread the word to the public.

When this information hit social media, MY (aespa fandom) expressed their frustration, saying that the label is once again preventing their group from self-producing. Fans also expressed their disappointment as aespa is currently at the peak of their career and releasing songs composed by them will give them more opportunities to work globally.
In October they released their special digital single, “SYNK: PARALLEL LINE”, which featured their respective self-produced solo tracks. At the time, all the songs reached the top of various music charts. Afterwards, many hope to create more of their own music, but apparently, SM Entertainment is once again limiting their potential.
This isn’t the first time the label has rejected the idea of its artists releasing their own songs.
In the past, Girls’ Generation has hinted that the reason was because the song didn’t match the group’s original worldview or concept.

In an interview, Tiffany exposed SM.
“Some of us proposed the work they were doing, but we just took them back. They know what concept they want and they want lyrics like ‘unknown world,’ ‘goddess of luck,’ ‘Athena, the goddess of wisdom.’ They want things like that in the lyrics.”

🐥: SM’s reactions to SC’s songs were good, but my solo song was rejected. But I insisted that I would only do this song. EXO was also one of the artists who expressed their dissatisfaction after SM did not allow them to release their songs. When Sehun released his solo song “On Me” in 2020, which was written by Chanyeol’s team, he revealed that SM rejected it multiple times.
They wanted him to release another song, but he insisted. Once released, it proved to be one of the most beloved songs on the album.
Meanwhile, MY continues to spread what Giselle said, aiming to expose SM and change their initial decision.
