(G)I-DLE Agency Takes Strict Action Against Deepfake Distribution: “No Leniency”

On September 3, Cube Entertainment released an official statement on their social media, stating: “We have confirmed that malicious deepfake content targeting our artists is circulating online. This is a serious criminal act that severely damages the reputation of artists and causes them significant mental distress. We consider this situation to be very serious.”

The statement continued: “We are constantly monitoring the situation and gathering evidence. We will take severe legal action against the creators and distributors of these deepfakes, without any leniency.”

Cube Entertainment further emphasized: “We will continue to do our best to protect the dignity and rights of our artists. We will firmly respond to all illegal activities that damage the reputation of our artists.”

Deepfake technology, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to create manipulated images, has recently become a significant social issue due to its misuse in illegal and harmful content. It was even recently revealed that over 50% of sexual deepfake content is of Korean female celebrities, sparking outrage among fans.

Previously, other agencies such as YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and Woollim Entertainment have also expressed their intention to take legal action against the misuse of deepfake technology.
