The Bigbang G-Dragon and YG Entertainment leader are under police investigations following the accusations of a composer according to which their live-album track of 2010 “My Age has 13” has used its job illegally.
The composer, identified only as Mr. A, filed a complaint in November 2024 with the Mapo di Soul police station, claiming that a song that recorded at the Korea Music Copyright Association in 2001 with the title “G-Dragon” was copied without permission, retouched and included in the album of the solo concert of G-Dragon, A light shines.
According to police sources, Mr. a alleged That YG Entertainment has not only failed to credit, but also reworked his composition to appear original. He says that the song was reiterated “My Age Is 13” and mixed with other “Storm”, “Hip Hop Gentlemen” and “G-Dragon” tracks to form a medley of four and a quarter-minute listed as the fifth trace of the album.
In response, YG Entertainment has released a declaration by rejecting the requests for intent to violate copyright. The company described the problem as a “Mix-up of songs” during the preparations for the solo concert of the 200 of 200 of the G-Dragon, stating that two distinct songs shared the same title. A police officer confirmed that interviews are underway with all those who have been appointed in the complaint and that the materials obtained are under forensic overhaul.
The case attracted the greatest attention as G-Dragon disappeared YG Entertainment in 2023 and signed with Galaxy Corporation after canceling his name in an unrelated investigation of the 2023 drug. The plagiarism accusations mark the first great legal challenge relating to the first works of G-Dragon and have fueled the debate between fans and observers of the sector compared to the protections of the intellectual property in K-pop.
YG Entertainment stressed that “he will explain and collaborate completely” if further clarifications are needed. In the meantime, the police continue to collect evidence and expect to complete their investigations before deciding whether to press formal accusations.
