On December 23rd at 6pm, fromis_9 (Lee Saerom, Song Hayoung, Park Jiwon, Roh Jisun, Lee Seoyeon, Lee Chaeyoung, Lee Nagyung, Baek Jiheon) will release their latest single “from” before their contracts officially end.
“from” is a heartfelt fan song dedicated to their “FLOVER” fandom, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support. Member Song Hayoung participated in composing the song, and all members contributed to writing the lyrics together.
Formed through Mnet’s “Idol School”, fromis_9 officially debuted in 2018. Known for their bright and energetic charm, they have consistently released music and gained recognition. In 2021, during Off The Record’s label integration, fromis_9 moved to HYBE’s sublabel Pledis, sparking attention and hope for their future.
However, three years after the move, the group separated from Pledis. Last month, Pledis announced the termination of its exclusive contracts, stating: “We have had extensive discussions with members about their future and career paths. After an in-depth dialogue, we mutually decided to conclude the contracts.”
During their time with Pledis, fromis_9 released various songs, including “Talk & Talk”, “DM”, “Stay This Way”, “#menow” and “Supersonic”. Their recent song “Supersonic”, released in August, has been particularly successful, charting well nationally and internationally. It was also named one of the “Best K-pop Songs of 2024” by Billboard, PopMatters, NME and Dazed.
This song came a year after their first album “Unlock My World”, released in June 2023. Before their latest activities, some members expressed disappointment at the lack of promotion during interactions with fans, and fans criticized the agency for allegedly neglecting the group.
Despite these challenges, fromis_9 reached a career high with “Supersonic,” but ultimately decided to part ways with Pledis. Their final single “from” serves as a heartfelt farewell to Pledis and will be followed by their appearance on MBC’s “Gayo Daejejeon” on December 31, the date their contracts expire.
Ahead of the release, members shared a message via Pledis, saying: “We put our hearts into this song, writing it as a letter to FLOVER. We hope our sincerity warms a corner of your hearts during this cold winter. May it blend seamlessly into your days, and wherever you are, we hope to smile and create memories together.“
At the time of fromis_9’s departure, the group’s future remains uncertain. Whether they will disband or pursue a new direction as a group or as individuals is yet to be seen. From debut, to agency move, to leaving controversy and beyond, their journey has been marked by ups and downs, leaving fans curious about what lies ahead in the new year.
