The fatal accident occurred in February when a heavily intoxicated DJ Yesong was driving in Seoul’s Gangnam neighborhood in the early hours of the morning. She hit a motorcycle traveling in front of her, fatally injuring the driver, a delivery man in his fifties. The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition but did not survive. Authorities revealed that his blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was 0.221 percent, well above the legal limit.

The court initially sentenced her to 10 years in prison, underlining the gravity of her actions. However, on appeal, his sentence was reduced to eight years. The appeals court considered his confession and the agreement reached with the victim’s family when deciding to lower the sentence. However, they highlighted the reckless nature of his driving, noting that he ran red lights and drove at dangerous speeds, endangering others.
