Four idol groups pulled from festivals after scam, organizers pursue legal action

Popular girl groups ≠ME and ≒JOY were originally announced for GIGA・GIGA SONIC on October 18, while FRUITS ZIPPER and CUTIE STREET were scheduled to perform at SAMURAI SONIC on October 19. However, none of the apparitions will take place.

According to their agencies, Asobi Systems and Yoyogi Animation Academy, the groups had never agreed to perform at either event. In fact, both agencies were shocked to discover the names of the groups featured on the official promotional material. Even the idols themselves were unaware of the alleged bookings.

Festival organizers confirmed that their dealings had been with individuals posing as legitimate representatives, who turned out to be scammers with no ties to the real agencies.

“After announcing the lineups, we received communications from the agencies and confirmed that the contracts had been entered into with individuals falsely claiming to represent them. These individuals were not affiliated with Asobi Systems or Yoyogi Animation Academy. We, along with other companies involved, have suffered damages and are now cooperating with the police as we pursue legal action,” GIGA・GIGA SONIC said.

Despite the setback, both events will continue with the rest of the scheduled artists. Fans who purchased tickets specifically to see ≠ME, ≒JOY, FRUITS ZIPPER or CUTIE STREET will be fully refunded.
