Former X1 member who joined Survival Show for the fourth time Debate: “It’s a shame…”

THIS popular K-pop idol sparks discussions to join fourth survival show after ‘failed’ debut. Should he give up becoming an idol?

On September 29, Lee Hangyul was officially introduced as one of the contestants in iQIYI x SBS’s Chinese-Korean survival show, “Starlight Boys”, which will air in October.

Before the program, online netters took to a web forum to recall the time he talked about joining multiple survival programs and lament when it would be the last one.

She started auditioning in 2017 with KBS’s “The Unit”. At that time he was already a member of IM who debuted with MBK. In 2019, he then debuted as a member of X1 again after participating in Mnet’s “Produce x 101”.

Hangyul enjoyed brief popularity until they disbanded later in 2020. He continued under H&D, a subunit created with former X1 Dohyon before they joined PocketDol Studio’s new boy group, BAE173.

Unfortunately, the team did not achieve stardom and only had limited activities, so they were forced to join JTBC’s “Peak Time” last year for publicity.

Seeing how he is trying to build his name by joining his fourth survival show, K-pop fans were saddened by this and blamed his label for not expanding his career into another field, or letting him go for better opportunities.

K-Netz expressed regret as Hangyul is obviously not devoid of skills and image, and some suggested that he instead debut as an actor, which is less saturated than the idol industry.

Here are some of the comments:

  • “This kid is good in both skills and appearance, but it’s a shame.”
  • “It’s not even his fault, but he wasted his time.”
  • “Hangyul, why is life so hard on you? This kind of friend deserves to feel good.”
  • “Again, it is a lack of marketing skill to treat such a rare and talented person in this way.”
  • “If the group is going through a hard time right now, it would be fine for them to pursue acting, but with that kind of imagery, it’s too much to do a survival show four times. Do you think you’ll have any mental ideas?” strength left after?”
