Between a police investigation and a growing legal control, the former South Korean president Yoon Suk-Yeol was seen walking through a portico for shopping in Seoul on June 12, the same day that had to respond to a second convocation of the police.
Around 11:20, Yoon appeared in the level of the basement of the Acrovist complex in Seocho-Gu, accompanied by safety personnel and casually dressed in shorts. He came out of a gallery and made his way to a section of the shopping center known for his health and beauty shops, attracting the attention of the spectators.
Yoon is currently under investigation for two serious accusations. The first provides for obstruction of official duties, on accusations of having ordered the presidential security service (PSS) to intervene and block its arrest.
The second concerns the abuse of power in accordance with the presidential security law, according to reporting the PSS to eliminate the registers of secure communications among the military commanders relating to discussions on martial law on 7 December 2024.
Although he was initially summoned on June 5, Yoon refused to appear. The special investigative unit followed a second call for June 12, which also ignored. Instead, his lawyer, Yoon Gap-Geun, presented an opinion written on June 11, stating that the former president would not have respected the police request for a person.
As the disputes swell, public criticisms grow for the public presence of Yoon during a period of serious legal investigations. The authorities have not yet announced if they are looking for mandatory measures.
