“A,” a 30-year-old former idol, was indicted without detention by the Changwon District Prosecutor’s Office’s 3rd Criminal Division on charges of violating the Military Service Act. “A” is accused of conspiring with his mother, “B,” to falsify medical records under the name of a doctor in 2021 in order to avoid enlisting in the military. Another individual, “C,” who is a nurse, was also indicted with them.

“A” was originally classified as a Grade 1 in the military fitness evaluation, making him eligible for active duty. But according to the investigation, he falsified medical records to lower his rank to Grade 4.

Initially, the police refused to investigate the case, citing insufficient evidence to prove that “A” and “B” had committed the crime and that they had deceived the Military Manpower Administration. But after a request from the prosecution, they re-examined the investigation and forwarded the case to the prosecutor’s office. The prosecution analyzed telephone conversations between the conspirators and found that there was sufficient evidence.

The prosecution also conducted a medical examination of the MRI images submitted by “A” during his military service exam and confirmed that he did not have the disease, which was cited as the reason for his exemption from active duty.

Nurse “C” was accused of accessing the hospital’s electronic system at the request of “B” to help falsify medical records. “A” has already completed his military service as a social worker after being classified as a Grade 4 recruit.

If “A” is found guilty of actually falsifying documents to evade conscription, he would be ordered to undergo a new physical examination and re-perform his mandatory military service, based on the results of the evaluation.
