On September 9, the Changwon District Prosecutor’s Office announced that it had indicted A without detention on charges of violating the Military Service Law, forging documents, and violating the Information and Communications Network Law.
The prosecution also charged A’s mother, “B,” and a nurse, “C,” with helping to falsify medical records.
According to the indictment, in May 2021, A and B falsified a doctor’s medical record to lower A’s military classification from Grade 1 (fit for active duty) to Grade 4 (reserve duty).
Initially, the police, who first investigated the case, concluded that there was insufficient evidence to prove that A and B had deceived the Military Manpower Administration. The case was closed in February without any charges.
However, after reviewing computer logs, recordings of telephone conversations between the conspirators, and other evidence, the prosecution determined that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with the case.
In March, the prosecutor’s office requested a new investigation, and in May, A was charged with violating the Military Service Act, while B was charged with additional forgery charges.
Further investigation, including two rounds of medical evaluations of the MRI scan presented during A’s military examination, revealed that A did not suffer from the disease cited as the reason for his military exemption.
C, the nurse who accessed the hospital’s computer system to falsify data at B’s request, has also been identified and charged.
If convicted, A, who completed his service as a Grade 4 Reservist, may have to reenlist as an active-duty soldier.
At the moment, this case has become a hot topic in Korea, as netizens are actively trying to guess the identity of this official idol.
