According to a Lawtalk News report on July 8, the Soul administrative court in April denied the appeal of Mr. A.who tried to raise his restriction of travel abroad, citing his son’s career as an idol singer and the need for international business trips.
Mr. A. He is accused of having collected almost 2.9 trillions of victims for a period of about 17 months, starting from September 2022, under the claim of promising high returns through a digital investment platform. The case is currently under investigation by the South Korean police and the Ministry of Justice has imposed a ban on travel in April 2024, which has been extended monthly since then.
In his legal challenge, Mr. A. He claimed to have collaborated with the investigations, that his family – including his son IDOLo – Risidees in Korea and who did not represent any risk of flight. He said that the travel ban was damaging his commercial operations, which require frequent trips abroad.
However, the court firmly rejected its arguments, stating that the severity of the accusations and the complexity of the current investigations justified the travel restriction.
“The accused has a history of frequent international trips before the initial travel ban”, The Court observed. “Given the severity of the accusations and the probability of a prolonged investigation, lifting the travel ban could hinder justice.”
The Court also rejected the idea that having a K-Pop Idolo child minimized the risk of flight, underlining that the public interest in preserving the integrity of the investigations has exceeded any personal or commercial inconvenience.
The efforts to obtain a declaration from the Idolo agency were not successful, without any official response provided at the time of drafting this document.
This case aroused discussions within the entertainment sector and among the fans, since the identity of the idol involved remains not disclosed, but speculation continues to grow online.
