A fan union was created to protest against the brand.
It recently emerged that a September 2024 event involved SEVENTEEN‘S Jeonghan AND The 8th is contested by the fans. A fan union raised protests on October 23, 2024, claiming that the special event designed for consumers of the Speculum glasses brand lasted only 9 minutes.
The Speculum brand hosted a meet-and-greet event open to 50 lucky consumers. Fans will be able to meet Jeonghan and THE8, who are models for the brand. According to the fans, the event did not take place correctly. The brand also avoided complaints from fans.
People who purchased from the brand between September 9 and 10, 2024 would be eligible for a lucky draw in the brand. Since higher purchases meant higher chances of winning, it was claimed that one of the victims in the syndicate had spent over ₩63.0 million KRW (approximately $45,700 USD).

A special video that was supposed to be broadcast just for the winners was also not broadcast. Additionally, the artists only appeared for a total of 9 minutes. Compared to other events where events last 30 minutes to an hour, fans were very disappointed. It was also stated that although there were only 50 winners, the brand suddenly added Chinese consumers to the list of winners and even invited influencers to come down. The influencers’ event took place right before the winners’ event and they were said to have received more time than the winners.
According to the union, Speculum had previously acknowledged its lack of professionalism in its handling of the event, and even promised to rectify it, but has since given fans no additional response, leading the union to publicize the issue.
