Exy Responds to WJSN Breakup Rumors “We’re Still a 10-Member Band”

In this regard, leader Chu So-jung (Exy) clarified “Personally, I don’t think of it as an “eight-member reorganization.” We are still a group of 10 members”, expressing his deep affection for the team. Despite rumors of dissolution that emerged in November last year, Exy has firmly denied them, urging fans to wait for their reunion.

Exy debuted as WJSN’s leader and main rapper in February 2016. On December 19, 2024, she sat down for an interview at Ten Asia headquarters in Seoul, where she reflected on her career and personal growth. Although she has showcased her talent under the stage name Exy, she has recently focused on her acting career under her real name Chu So-jung.

Currently, Exy still lives in a dormitory with fellow members Dawon and Eunseo. He said: “Having experienced difficult times living alone after moving to Seoul, being with my members is precious and makes me happy. Even during mundane days, their presence makes you laugh. Also, housing prices in Seoul are high (laughs).

Exy also talked about fellow members Bona, Eunseo and Luda, who are pursuing acting careers. “There were times when we auditioned for the same roles. Nowadays, we audition for roles that fit our individual characters, so the overlap is less frequent.”

When we auditioned for the same project, I never thought about competing with them. Instead, I just wanted at least one of us to succeed. We have always believed that the decision was based on who was best suited to the role, not because one of us was superior. That’s why we sincerely celebrated each other’s successes.”

One song that holds special meaning for Exy and fans is “As You Wish” by WJSN. Despite being released more than five years ago, it continues to rank at the top during the New Year season. “The end of the year often brings anxiety and reflection. I feared it, but seeing “As You Wish” become a source of hope for so many changed my perspective. Watching people find comfort and make wishes with this song has been deeply meaningful and healing for me.

Reflecting on his personal growth, Exy shared: “In my twenties, I couldn’t see what really mattered. It’s natural at that age, but it’s very different now that I’m in my thirties. I didn’t know myself well back then and often lost my sense of direction. If I could talk to my younger self, I would say, “It’s okay to try everything.” Things won’t be as bad as you fear.’ I regret being overly hard on myself, but I believe all those experiences helped me become the mature person I am today.”
