On December 29, in response to a viewer petition posted on the KBS Viewer Petition Board, KBS stated: “As we explained previously, after uploading the video to YouTube, additional information was obtained that differed from the original report. Considering different perspectives, the decision to delete the article was made in compliance with radio and television production guidelines and internal procedures.“
They added: “KBS also applies the same process to other news in various fields. In accordance with broadcast production guidelines and internal procedures, we thoroughly discuss and review reported stories and, if necessary, edit or remove them. KBS remains committed to reporting on major social events with objectivity, impartiality and fairness.“
The petitioner, Mr Park, had previously submitted two petitions seeking explanations from KBS. His petition was specifically about why KBS suddenly deleted an article titled “Min Hee-jin’s part: ‘I tried to stop NewJeans’ official statement’… HYBE replies: ‘Sorry to Min.’” without any clear explanation. He argued that KBS had to provide a transparent and concrete reason for the cancellation.
In response to the first two petitions, KBS said the decision to delete the article was made after considering different perspectives and following internal procedures. However, this explanation failed to convince Mr Park and thousands of netizens, leading to the filing of a third petition.
