Following his “Whiplash” dance challenge with Aespa Karina, ENHYPEN Sunghoon earned backlash for his “poor” dancing skills, with some netters labeling him a “bad dancer.”
On October 27, fourth generation representative idols Karina and Sunghoon sent fans into a frenzy after performing the “Whiplash” dance challenge. This is to commemorate aespa’s return with their fifth mini-album of the same name on the 21st.
Seeing the high-level images of the two stars in one frame created a stir among K-pop fans, especially ENGENE (ENHYPEN fandom) and MY (aespa fan).
At the time of writing, the collaborative video has reached 11 million views on Instagram and 7.8 million views on TikTok – it hasn’t even been a day since it was posted.
Even though this interaction accumulated rave reviews, the video was ridiculously used to hate on Sunghoon, criticizing him after seeing how he danced. According to netters, the male idol was so “stiff” while choreographing the highlight that no justice was given to the trend.
On TikTok and theqoo, both K-Netz and I-Netz expressed their disappointment towards the “Sweet Venom” singer with his disappointing dance. Some web commentators began labeling him as a “worse dancer” than ordinary people.

They also used Sunghoon to hate on HYBE, claiming that it is the result of a company that prioritized graphics over talent. Here are some of the comments:
- “Every time I see him (Sunghoon), he always acts so insincere.”
- “The guy is so stiff, he’s like a stick.”
- “Wow, I didn’t know it was that bad.”
- “If you’re going to do it that way, don’t accept the challenge. What is it?”
- “How can a (former) skater be so rigid? Rather, shouldn’t skaters be more flexible than average men?”
- “Wow, he’s a worse dancer than normal people.”
- “I’m confused whether it’s because you just can’t do it or you’re just not sincere.”
- “He can’t dance.”
On the other hand, ENGENE also defended the male idol, claiming that Sunghoon has already demonstrated his best skills with their past performances and a single dance challenge that was supposed to be a fun collaboration should not become a basis for him to be called a “bad dancer.”
- “The comments are crazy. Seriously, what’s the difference between you and HYBE?”
- “They really don’t hesitate to laugh, gossip and say mean things.”
