According to the reports of 11 April, KST, the authorities arrested eight suspicions on charges of producing and spreading the DeepFake videos of Hybe artists.
The arrest took place through a joint investigation between Hybe and the Northern Provincial Police Agency of Gyeongi to repress the crimes of the synthetic media aimed at public figures. This investigation was made possible through a memorandum of understanding (Mou) signed between Hybe and the police in February, which led to the opening of a dedicated hotline and a cooperation system between the two entities to quickly face the crimes related to Deepfake.
According to the authorities, six people arrested were managing chat room Telegram, where they distributed the illegal content they created using the faces of Hybe’s artists.
The critical digital evidence provided to the police by Hybe have made the arrest possible, allowing them to trace and arrest the authors. The Hybe’s internal reporting platform, the Hybe Artist Rights Protection Report Center, launched in September 2024, played a significant role in this. The reports required by Fan0 of Deepfake content also contributed to building the case against the culprits.
