Body image influences many K-Pop idols.
VCHA‘S KG recently filed a lawsuit against JYP entertainment. He reported the company for abuse and mistreatment, filing the complaint with them.
A legal document lays out full and gruesome details of former VCHA KG’s lawsuit against JYP Entertainment
In particular, he highlighted restrictions on members’ diets. According to KG, members were forced to maintain an extreme level of thinness and were often fed only small salads. On multiple occasions, members were denied meals and staff were even instructed not to eat. They would monitor the girls’ meals and cooking in the dormitory.
Through KG’s complaint, fans have begun to highlight JYP Entertainment’s strict culture of restrictions when it comes to food. The company once lobbied TWICE‘S Momo follow an intense diet before allowing it to debut.
“When I was a trainee… I was told I had to lose 7kg no matter what. That was the only way to be featured. There was a D-Day.”
— Momo
He ate ice for a week to lose weight. Fans wondered if this led to many idols continuing to show signs of eating disorders even after debuting.
We need to talk about how bad the ED culture is in JYP. I’m seriously worried about all their idols. https://t.co/B10dYHwrN3 pic.twitter.com/wbsbThzQG5

Stray children‘ Happy he commented that he needed to go on a diet before their concert. He later clarified that the part about the bones was a joke.
ITZY‘S Chaeryeong he also talked about diet and weight loss, wanting a pill to suppress his appetite.
Yuna they also showed similar signs of an eating disorder.
this reminds her of when Yuna admitted that she became fixated on dieting because everything else in her life seemed out of control. this was the sneaker-Cheshire era, meaning it was a direct result of the backlash https://t.co/pRDf9YtFiY pic.twitter.com/PP5BEBPmfn

While diets are the norm for trainees, fans are worried that JYP Entertainment may be taking it too far.
this is broad in kpop and was obvious from day one and poorly hidden if they even bothered to try to hide
It. People have been saying this for years too, but kpop stans are very complacent towards the industry. https://t.co/5CO9vCAuE3— Aunts (@springtaekook12) December 8, 2024
Some call out the entire industry, not just JYP Entertainment.
It’s not JYP 😭😭😭 don’t act like 90% of these idols aren’t underweight to the point that girls don’t even have periods https://t.co/qpZCD1JKur
